The Big Gig Show 2025 – A Community Success

The gig rowing community came together on Sunday, March 9th, at Westpoint Exeter for The Big Gig Show. With attendance from rowers, club members and newcomers, the event proved to be a celebration of all things gig rowing.

The event provided a unique platform for clubs and rowers to explore developments in equipment, connect with key industry suppliers, and engage directly with representatives from key organisations.

Talks and Q&A sessions encouraged valuable exchanges of ideas on topics ranging from sports welfare to heritage and adventure rowing. Trustees of the CPGA shared their Annual Report and representatives from the World Pilot Gig Championships Committee and Islands Partnership discussed developments for 2025.

The exhibition area was a hive of activity throughout the day, featuring a diverse range of industry experts and businesses showcasing rowing gear, handmade crafts, and essential safety equipment. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with exhibitors and browse the products on offer. The presence of the RNLI Water Safety Team further highlighted the importance of safety in the sport, with valuable advice shared with both new and experienced rowers.

Beyond the exhibits and discussions, the Big Gig Show fostered a strong sense of community. The welcoming atmosphere encouraged attendees to exchange experiences and discuss best practices. The event’s free entry policy and accessible format ensured that gig rowers and non rowers alike could find areas of interest.

The event was enhanced by free parking, a range of catering options, and a quirky crossover with the Comic Con & Gaming Festival where a high number of attendees were in costume – including Dr Who’s Daleks!

The overwhelming success of The Big Gig Show 2025 has set the stage for future events of this kind. It has reinforced the importance of creating spaces for rowers and clubs to come together, learn, and grow. As the sport continues to grow it supports an increasing number of small businesses and the event proved vital in connecting these specialist suppliers and makers with the gig rowing community.

A huge thank you to the exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and attendees who made The Big Gig Show such a triumph. We look forward to an even bigger and better event in the years to come!
