Half Term – Junior Camp

Young rowers are invited to a day long rowing camp at Stithians Reservoir on Tuesday 28th May.

The camp is designed to give young people the opportunity to row different types of vessel including flashboats and gigs.

Nick George, Engagement and Participation Lead, said, “We are really looking forward to bringing young people together. The social element of our rowing community is beneficial for all ages. Our aim is also to provide some basic water safety and practical skills as well as coaching.”

The Junior Camp is for competent on-water rowers who are attending secondary school, from year groups 7-11 (between the ages of 11-16). Participants must be physically able to participate in rowing activity and prepared to row in different positions and types of boats.

Dylan Jane, Events Lead, explained, “We know there is a massive push coming from gig clubs to support junior rowing, however we recognise that this is not the only form of rowing available. By working in partnership with clubs and other rowing associations, we hope to be able to boost participation and the quality of rowing across our sport.”

The event will be delivered by a partnership of the Cornwall Rowing Association and the Cornish Pilot Gig Association. Numbers are limited, but young rowers are welcome to join a waiting list in case further spaces become available. Book via this link or the Events page of the CPGA website.

This initiative is part of the Wave of Events Project which is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
