Counties Set To Battle At NCC 2025

The National County Championships (NCC) is a highlight of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association racing calendar, bringing together rowing talent from across the sport.

For 2025, the NCC will take place on Saturday 4th October as a single, action-packed day celebrating both junior and adult rowing promising an incredible showcase of gig rowing.

County crews have the opportunity to represent any counties where CPGA member clubs are based: Bristol, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Norfolk, Somerset, and Sussex. Where required, some counties may combine to create representative sides, based on county selector nominations.

We are delighted to confirm that the 2025 National County Championships will be hosted at Queen Anne Battery in Plymouth, with the support of the Royal Western Yacht Club and Coxside Gig Club. All racing will take place on the Cattewater, providing an exciting backdrop for this end-of-season celebration of gig rowing.

All junior and adult categories will be contested on the same day. Open and women’s/girls categories will include U14, U16, U18, U25, Senior, Vets, Super Vets, and Masters.

Competitors must meet the age criteria on the day of the event for adult categories, or the seasonal age rules for junior categories, in line with the CPGA 2025 Racing Rules. The adult categories are U25 for rowers aged 16 to 24, Senior for those aged 16 or older, Vets for 40 or older, Super Vets for 50 or older, and Masters for 60 or older. The junior categories are U14 for those aged 13 or younger on August 30 of the preceding season and U16 for 15 or younger on August 30 of the preceding season. Junior rowers may remain in their age category for the full racing season from January 1 to December 30.

County squad and selection activities have continued from last year and each participating county will field one crew per category.
