Summer Indoor Rowing Challenge 2024
The CPGA is delighted to launch a brand new competition for schools and sports clubs. The Summer Indoor Rowing Challenge 2024, will run throughout the summer term and is aimed at young people between Year 7 to Year 13.
Each month, during May, June and July, participants will face a different challenge with teachers and coaches submitting the times and distances achieved into the competition entry form.
Dylan Jane, Events Lead for the Cornish Pilot Gig Association, explained the concept behind the initiative, “Providing increased competition opportunities, whether virtual, in-person, indoor, or on-water, is vital for sustaining interest amongst young people throughout the season. We hope that these short challenges will inspire young people and foster connections among clubs and schools before the racing season begins.“
The competition is open to rowers and non-rowers alike, although all participants will require access to a rowing machine. To enter, coaches or teachers should download the SIRC Competition Entry Form and submit it via email to hello@cpga.co.uk by the final day of each month.
Results will be distributed via email to all participants, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals up for grabs across all age groups.
Claire Tripp, General Manager for the Cornish Pilot Gig Association said, “We are excited to see young people tackle these challenges and demonstrate their talents and tenacity, as individuals and teams. Young people are the future of our sporting community and we are committed to supporting their participation on and off the water.”

“This initiative is part of the Wave of Events Project which is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”
