Brand New Competition Series For 2024

We are delighted to announce a new interconnected, multiformat racing series for the coming 2024 season.

The CPGA’s Senior Summer Series will be held at four separate locations, with events in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.

Club crews will accrue points at each regatta in the series, and the crews with the highest overall points by the end of the series will be crowned champions of the Senior Summer Series.

The Senior Summer Series has been designed in response to the sport wide club consultation recently carried out by the CPGA team during the winter months.

Engagement and Participation Lead, Nick George explained, “Many club representatives were keen to see more large scale events, open to all, so that they could offer their members more opportunities to experience top competitions. We have designed this new series to create challenging and competitive racing opportunities for crews wherever they are in the fleet.”

These senior category races will be open to all those over the age of 16 with no upper age limit. Each regatta will contain a seeding race, such as a single start line, a time trial or long course. The regattas will then have point scoring races over different courses including kites, triangles, sprints and mid-distances, giving rowers the chance to race twice, sometimes three times a day.

The series events will be held at:

– Mount’s Bay 8th June
– Mevagissey 22nd June
– Paignton 18th August TBC
– Weymouth 31th August

Event Lead, Dylan Jane said, “We are delighted to be working with incredible clubs to host these events, in some breath-taking locations. We look forward to seeing some great racing as crews battle it out across the series, seeking to sit above their rivals on the overall scoreboard.

The new Senior Summer Series has been developed as part of the Wave of Events project which aims to develop more gig rowing events, including competition opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy as participants and spectators.

More information about the Senior Summer Series, including the details of each regatta and how to enter will be made available on the Events Directory soon.
