River Fowey – Coverack – Boscastle
We are delighted to announce new junior specific events for the coming 2024 season.
These Junior Events will be held at a number of separate locations. The first event of the Junior Series will be hosted by River Fowey Gig Club on Sunday 7th July followed by Coverack Gig Club on Sunday 28th July. Boscastle will also host an event at Roadford Lake on the 7th September. Invites for Fowey and Coverack have already been distributed to club administrators.
The Junior Events Programme has been designed in response to the sport-wide club consultation carried out by the CPGA team during the winter months where many clubs highlighted the lack of racing for just juniors across the season.
Engagement and Participation Lead, Nick George explained, “Many club representatives were keen to see dedicated junior events to give young people more time on the water racing. We have designed these events to create regular and varied racing opportunities throughout the Summer.”
These junior category races will be open to U14’s and U16’s. The regattas will have multiple races giving rowers the chance to participate in multiple races.
Event Lead, Dylan Jane said, “We are delighted to be working with clubs to add junior events to the fixtures calendar this year. We look forward to seeing juniors meet more regularly and form friendly rivalries”
More information about additional Junior regattas and how to enter will be made available on the Events Directory of the CPGA website soon. Invites for Fowey and Coverack have already been distributed to club secretaries.
The new Junior Events Programme has been developed as part of the Wave of Events project which aims to develop more gig rowing events, including competition opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy as participants and spectators.
