New Courses Update

Experienced coaches and coxes from our gig rowing community joined CPGA workshops over the weekend to pilot new coxing and coaching courses. Course tutor Rhiannon Bailey of RB Fitness led the group in learning activities over two days.

Participant Ali Johns of UCSC, has delivered coaching in a number of clubs. She welcomed the development of the new courses, “I think they are an excellent initiative. It’s imperative that there’s progression of qualifications and courses.”

As well as classroom based activities, the group headed down to the river at Saltash. Thanks to Caradon Gig Club, the group were able to trial the on water assessments in their GRP gigs.

Jack Turner of Ilfracombe Gig Club, was pleased to take part, “I found it an enjoyable weekend. It’s a lot of content but it’s been really nice to workshop with like-minded people. It’s all part of the progression of the sport, mixing a happy rowing community.”

The new coxing and coaching courses are due to be launched for 2024, with dates to be announced soon via cpga.co.uk/events
