Langstone Pilot Gig Club have plenty of reasons to Celebrate!

Langstone Pilot Gig Club last month celebrated their 10th Anniversary.  On a bitter cold Sunday afternoon over 80 club members turned out to raise a glass and feel very proud of what the club has achieved in these last 10 years. Club Chair, Jackie Tutt said she is so proud of what the club has achieved over the last 10 years. The club continue to exceed all their expectations and 2023 looks set to be another successful season.  The club continue to offer Free Introductory rowing sessions on a Saturday afternoon to give new rowers a chance to try gig rowing. More rowing than ever is on offer throughout the week for those who either want to train hard to compete in racing, or who just want to row for pleasure. Strength and Conditioning classes, Pilates classes and two sessions of Crossfit are on offer every week for members who want to improve their fitness.

The club has also recently received Planning Permission to build a wooden gig shelter to house their racing gigs. This will help them to maintain the gigs and teach necessary skills to club members.

Finally, and certainly a hugely exciting celebration was the launch of the club’s new wooden gig, Heart of Hayling, made by Peter Williams in Fowey.  Langstone Juniors blessed the gig and were the first to take her out for a row.

The afternoon also saw a new club start its journey as the Coastal Rowing Academy Club launched their new gig Lucy and joined in the celebrations. This is very exciting for gig rowing locally as this new club joins LPGC and three other clubs close by and will ensure the sport grows East along the coast.   Clair Fennessy, a CPGA Trustee was present for the celebrations and welcomed the new club with the traditional liquid offering!
