Epic Energy Launched

Launched on the 9th September 2021, Epic Energy took to the waters of the River Fal in Cornwall.

In September 2019 the CPGA commissioned the build of a gig by Falmouth Marine School. The aims being to establish links again with Falmouth Marine School where Ralph Bird and Ted Pentacost had assisted students in 1985 to build the Cornish Pilot Gig ‘Energy’. It also tied in with the centenary of Falmouth Marine School in 2020.

Obviously 2020 had different ideas and delays were unfortunate, but the gig now holds several records:
– Longest build time (in living memory)
– Most people involved in the build due to Covid delay, more than eighty (80) people involved
– Most wood used
– Most photographed / filmed. The CPGA will have a short documentary at a later date
– Most qualified inspection team assisting and monitoring the build

The gig was sold to a new club, literally off the blocks and EpicGigability – The Veterans Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Club (EPIC – Every Person Is Capable) are now the proud owners of this gig.

The CPGA would like to thank all who have been involved in the project in any way. No doubt the students who have worked on the gig will be proud of their achievements and will always remember this project.
