Introduction
The National County Championships (NCC) is an annual competition organised by the CPGA taking place at the end of the racing season. In contrast to most events, competitors will represent their county rather than competing on behalf of their club.
County sides are invited to form in all counties in which a CPGA member club is present; Bristol, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Norfolk, Somerset and Sussex.
The itinerary for the weekend sees racing for the adult and junior categories running on consecutive days.
2023 National County Championships
This year’s National County Championships will take place at the Mountbatten Centre, Plymouth on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October.
The Adult Championships races will take place on the Saturday to include the following categories:
- U25
- Open
- Vets
- Super Vets
- Masters
The Junior Championships races will take place on the Sunday to include the following categories:
- U15
- U16
- U17
- U18
Qualifying ages
Competitors must be of qualifying age on the day of the event. On the day of the event, they must be:
U25 = 18 to 24
Open = 18 or over
Vets = 40 or over
Super Vets = 50 or over
Masters = 60 or over
School-year age grading applies to junior age groups, meaning that on the 1st September 2023, juniors should be within the following categories:
U15 = Y10 or under
U16 = Y11 or under
U17 = Y12 or under
U18 = Y13 or under
Selection Process
We have a rigorous and fair selection process in place to support this event.
To facilitate this, county administration and selection representatives are being recruited and will be convened to carry out the selection process. The selection criteria will be published prior to selection events taking place.
There will be one crew selected for each of the above listed categories and selected crews may include more than one rower from each club.
Expressions of interest
The CPGA is now accepting expressions of interest from rowers and cox’ns across all counties via this form.
- Please complete your submissions no later than 7th September 2023.
- Form submissions should be made by the proposed participant.
- Club officers have been asked to invite competitors to complete the form.
- Individuals may also submit their form independent of club recommendation.
- Individuals may submit a form within more than one category (for which they are eligible).
- All NCC participants (rowers and coxes) will require a GigRower membership to be eligible. Junior participants 17 years and under can obtain a Junior GigRower membership free of charge. GigRower memberships can be obtained via the JustGo membership platform
