Due to the sea conditions and the forecast, the Goran event on Saturday 5th July has been CANCELLED

FORUM

The forum has been moved into the news section so that people are aware of the latest news for the membership. There is plenty going on and the CPGA are endeavouring to keep people informed via the news page.

VIKING LONGBOAT

For those with an interest in all boat craft, there is a replica of a Viking Longboat sailing from Dublin, Ireland around the South West coast and back to Denmark.
Take a look at her progress by visiting http://www.havhingsten.dk/

MIXED AND VETS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thanks to all those who competed, organised, loaned boats, umpired and maned the safety/umpire boats on the day.
We all know the hard work that everyone puts in to making an event a success.
Results to follow.

2nd TRIBUTE EVENT - MEVAGISSEY

Unfortunately due to the sea conditions on the Friday and the forecast for the Saturday the Meva club made the decision to cancel the event.

The next Tribute event will be at Rame on the 26th July.

No decision has been made about a replacement event, there was no reserve date, purely due to the way that the dates fell for clubs on the calendar.
BUT consideration will be given to having a third event, should it prove possible and providing that is what the membership want. All Club secretaries have been contacted for club views.

1st TRIBUTE EVENT - FALMOUTH

The 1st Tribute event of 2008 took place at Mylor Harbour, hosted by Falmouth.

The results are being sorted, but there are a number of clubs who need to declare crews in the B races, due to the fact that the third heat of the B race and the C race were combined, clubs need to be honest and let us know if they rowed any A crew rowers in the B races.

There are some photos that already give the information for some crews. Please remember that we want to make the whole results fair for all.

LOAN BOATS

In previous years we have always asked that clubs nominate gig(s) of their choice for all championship events, but we are very aware that often the requests have differed from the original nominated boats, therefore we would ask that this year Clubs nominate the boats that you would NOT wish to loan under any circumstance.

To date the following clubs have still to reply -  Culdrose, Ilfracombe, Paignton,  Pendeen, Raleigh.

Please be aware that if you fail to offer a loan of any gig(s), you will not be eligible for any championships event or Tribute series. The exception being one boat only clubs, but a response is needed from ALL CLUBS, some one boat only clubs do loan.

LORDS vs COMMONS BOAT RACE

On the 17th July at 3:30pm the Lords Vs Commons Boat Race will take place on the Thames infront of the Houses of Parliament. The Commons crew is being captained by Julia Goldsworthy MP.
This year there is the possibility of having some gig rowing as demostration rowing prior to the main event.
The course will be from below Vauxhall Bridge to just above Westminster Bridge.
If your club is interested please e-mail cpgaweb@aol.com there are only two gigs and crews needed.

STEWARDS TRUST SCHOLARSHIPS 2008

If you are interested in going back to university or continuing coaching after leaving university this year, take a look at the following Scholarship Programme. It might be just what you are thinking about doing. This is open to all, and will have potnetial fixed seat elements.

INDOOR ROWING

The CPGA have been successful in an application to the ARA’s Community Club Development Programme (CCDP), which has enabled the purchase of 12 Concept 2 Rowing Machines.

The machines will be held centrally by the CPGA, who will invite clubs to make an application for a maximum of 4 machines per club, which they will be loaned for a 4 month period. Clubs applying will be required to provide an outline of how they intend to use the machines during that time, and how this will help them to increase participation in rowing in their local community.

Clubs who wish to apply are invited to complete the attached application form and return to Anne Curnow-Care by Friday May 30th.

 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - IOS

What a great World Championships that was held in the Isles of Scilly over the Bank Holiday weekend. A huge array of colour in the form of the gigs, many newly painted.
Great to see the hard fought battles on the water and the enjoyment both on and off.
Congratulations to Falmouth Ladies A and Mounts Bay Mens A for taking the respective titles and Falmouth Ladies and Caradon Men in the vets.
But without everyone there competing it would not be the spectacle it is, so well done to ALL crews.
No doubt over the next few days the forum will be a chance to celebrate everyones achievements and there will be many photos.

CORNISH ELM PROJECT

There is a project that has been set up under the above name. The one of the most important elements of it is that we are preserving and passing the information. We can only do this with the help of past and present members. If in your club, you know someone who has a great deal of information and would be interested in being part of this project please contact cpgaweb@aol.com
