Saturday 18th February saw the official launch of the first equipment package of Club in the Box. Blue skies welcomed all to Rossiters Quay, Christchurch, Dorset for the occasion.
The project aims to facilitate clubs who are in the early stages of their development to access the equipment to get them on the water and training while raising funds for their Cornish Pilot Gig as well as growing their club membership.
The project has been funded by British Rowing, Sport England and the CPGA.
The GRP training gig was built at Rossiters Yachts Ltd, the trailers by Plymouth Towbar and Trailer Centre, oars by Kernow Boats, covers and seats by Gigass Seat/Covers, cover support by MRD Pilot Gig cover supports. A second set of oars for the second GRP have been built by Sutton Oars.
The GRP training gig was official launched by Phil Hornsey, Director of Membership and Rowing Community at British Rowing and named the Seven Stars. The launch was attended by many club representatives of the CPGA and applicants of the project as well as Alan Meegan, Head of Facilities and Rhiannon Bailey, South West Participation Manager both of British Rowing.
In the sunshine all present enjoyed the opportunity to have a row in either the new GRP or Poole Pilot Gig Club’s Cornish Pilot Gig ‘Isabelle’. As well as sampling the delights of jam and cream splits, saffron buns and heavy cake, washed down with Tribute supplied by long time sponsors and supports of the CPGA St Austell Brewery.
